Inconvenient disappearing convenience store

Date May 26, 2007

Since [censored] and I moved to Kawasaki, we have had a Circle K convenience store within walking distance. Unfortunately, they put signs up at the beginning of the month that they would be closing on May 31. I hope that another one is going to take its place. [censored] said they might be planning on tearing it down and putting up a condominium or something. I think they really might just be going out of business, because during the past few months they have been trying various gimmicks like point cards and handing out chocolate to regulars on Valentine’s Day. The manager of the store also started working in the front to keep an eye on newer employees. I think he tried everything he could at the end to stay in business and then just realized he couldn’t afford it.

This is all speculation, of course. I asked one of the employees whether there was a new covenience store coming in after Circle-K closes and he said he didn’t know. I’m going to be disappointed if we don’t get a new one, preferrably Ministop.

Incidentally, Circle K is the only convenience store in the US branded by a major oil company (Shell) that refuses to stop distributing pornography. Click here for the story.
